Bambino's Story….

bambino.JPG (16646 bytes)Bambino came to us from an owner who worked many hours each day. She had received him as a gift, and really knew she didn't have time for him, but she tried to be a good mom anyway. She kept Bambino crated for 12 or 14 hours a day, but when she was home carried him next to her in a snugli. Unfortunately, this combination gave Bambino the worst case of separation anxiety we'd ever seen!

When he first came to rescue, Bambino latched onto his foster mom like a life raft. When he could see her but couldn't physically touch her, he spun in circles and howled. If he couldn't see her, no matter where he was - in the house, the car, wherever - he did his business all over the place. After a few weeks of some Equilite Flower essences, some behavior modification techniques the vet passed along, and a lot of love and care, Bambino was ready to find a home. Enter Linda and her husband Bob.

Linda stays home due to some physical problems. She and Bob have several Westies, but Linda was looking for a dog who would stick with her all the time, even when she was not feeling well and needed to stay in bed. She thought her home would be just right for dog that had separation anxiety, as he could always be with her. So Bambino (now Bam-Bam) went off to live with Linda, Bob, and the Westies.

Bambino's New Beginning (recently reported by Linda)

Bam-Bam is thriving - doing so well that it's plumb disgusting! I no longer have a frightened little dog who suffers anxieties and needs me. I have an independent little guy who runs and plays and sits with me when he wants to! You would think he'd always lived with us.

bambinos familyThe first couple of days he was insecure, not knowing quite what was happening. But he is so smart that he watched the Westies and just copied everything they did. On the first day, he saw my boy jump up on the top of the couch to lie down, so Bam-Bam just did the same and now it's his favorite place to be. For a few days he would lie right next to my head and put one little paw on my shoulder, keeping close contact with me. When we went outside he would keep me in sight while I watched everyone play. But after only a few days he began running out of sight, further into the yard. Once in awhile he'd realize he had not seen me for awhile, so he'd race back, then run off again. I found it so endearing. Little by little he gained confidence to run around like a madman, playing and wrestling and chasing the squirrels without remembering to check if I was there. After about 3 weeks, my little "needy" guy was totally independent; happy to see me, but not suffering any anxiety. He is now so well adjusted and happy with his life that he has become downright pushy, leaping through the air to steal treats from the other guys. He just prances around here like he is King of the Household - and I suspect he is! To sum it all up, Bam-Bam is simply wonderful. Maltese are such precious dogs and so sweet natured. I'd love to have a house full of them!
