Buttons' Story...
Buttons is a little 6-pound guy about 7 years old, who had some pretty bad luck finding the right home. He'd been in at least two "permanent" homes before he came to us. We don't know what happened in his first home, but the woman who adopted him after that simply couldn't handle caring for him. He wasn't fed properly and wasn't groomed at all. So friends of hers took him in, hoping to give him a forever home. Unfortunately, there were birds in the new home, and Buttons' was totally fascinated by them -- perhaps he even wanted to eat them.
So one day last fall, his newest family drove Buttons from Maryland's Eastern Shore for placement through UMR. For all the shuffling around he'd been through, Buttons was just about the most loving, social little guy we'd ever met. He went to foster care where there were three other dogs and a cat.
He liked them all, but he made special friends with Daisy, his foster mom's Maltese. After he was neutered we wanted to find just the best forever home (and we promised him forever THIS time). We hoped we'd find a home where he had a sister, just like Daisy, and that maybe we'd even find a home where he'd live close enough to see Daisy from time to time. Within a few weeks, we found a perfect match for him with Tom and Judy and their little girl Maltese, Annie.
Buttons' New Beginning...
Tom and Judy lived only a few blocks from Buttons' foster mom. When we got their application, we sent his foster mom to do his home visit. She took Buttons along. Tom and Judy fell in love with Buttons during that visit.
As for Annie and Buttons . . . well from the moment they met they were fast, forever friends. In fact Annie had to spend the first night after Buttons' homecoming in her crate so everyone could get some sleep. All she wanted to do was play with Buttons! Tom and Judy live a pretty much pet-centered lifestyle and take the "kids" almost everywhere they go.
They sent us a photo of their family at Christmas and it was amazing to see how beautiful Buttons looked after a few short months of being groomed well, care for well, and loved immensely. Buttons has finally found his forever home. And he has found a forever playmate in Annie as well. Finally he is a lucky boy!
