Princess was a little 9-yr-old old female
Maltese whose owner called UMRs Lee Oden and left a message on her answering machine
during a workday. Apparently Princess was shredding papers (something all Maltese love to
do) while she was left in the laundry room all day. Her owner was tired of the mess and
didnt want Princess any more. Lee called her back when she got home from work, but
the owner said she had already taken Princess to the local pound.
This particular pound was a notorious one
that had a very poor track record with older dogs. Lee told the owner that her dog would
probably be put to sleep because she would be considered too old to place and she was an
owner turn-in. Lee then convinced the woman to go back to the pound as soon as it opened
the next day and get her dog out and let UMR find a new home for her. Fortunately, she did
so, and Princess was at best spared the trauma of spending any more time in that miserable
pound and at worst having her life end there.
