Sammy's Story…

Sammy's mom was an elderly woman who had to move to assisted living. She had Sammy and another, older dog, but the "rules" said she could have only one dog at her new home. She felt that the older dog would suffer more from being separated from her and felt that Sammy was more adoptable. So she came to us to find him a new home.

Sammy is just an adorable boy, but very shy. He is also very much a lap dog and sees his life's work as being a cuddly companion. For 5 years, he led a really quiet existence with his mom and a companion dog, so we wanted him to have a similar environment. But we also felt that at 5 years old, he should have at least an opportunity to be a little more active. We knew just the perfect place for him where he could combine what he was "used to" with the opportunity to learn to play. We had placed Shoo-Shoo, who was just a couple of years old, with Diane and her mom a few months before. And, they also had Vynnie, an older dog. Sounded perfect, and it is!

Sammy's New Begining…

Sammy moved in and immediately bonded with Diane's mother, as we thought he might. He is not much for playing still, but he does still love to cuddle in laps. Diane tells us in a recent note that he is also doing just fine with the rest of the family. Her update on Sammy and Shoo-Shoo is below.

Sammy and Shoo-Shoo are just fine. Sammy does have a few quirks but is generally a happy camper. He does hate this weather though -- I guess because he was not used to going outside before -- he never experienced winter. He has become more confident in general and much more vocal. He sometimes joins in a chorus of whining with Vinnie when they want an after dinner treat.

Shoo Shoo is another story -- she is a party girl -- loves everyone. Unlike Sammy, who really is a lap dog, Shoo is NOT a lap dog; though she will cuddle in bed. Occasionally I have seen her and Sammy kind of play. She and Vinnie love each other -- play all the time together. Of course SHOO does not listen to much. And she is an escape artist. If she could live outside I think she would.

We laughed when we heard that Shoo-Shoo loves the outdoors so much. When she came to us, it was because her family had moved into a smaller home with a postage stamp yard and Shoo was so depressed she was misbehaving. Her mom wanted her to be happy and the main criterion for that was to find her a home with a BIG yard. Exactly what Diane and her mom have at their house. Shoo apparently would like even more space, but clearly is loving her new home anyhow.
